Tina Fey announces movie adaptation of Broadway’s Mean Girls musical

Rudi Kinsella

Mean Girls

And yes, that is exactly as confusing as it sounds.

We’ve all seen Mean Girls. It’s a classic movie, and it is responsible for absolutely loads of jokes that people of a certain age still use to this day.

The Tina Fey creation was massively successful, so much so that it was adapted as a Broadway musical in 2018.

And THAT was such a success, that the musical adaptation of the movie, is now being adapted into a new movie.

No, really.

So it’s not going to be a Mean Girls sequel (that’s already been done before), it’s just going to be a movie-version of the musical.

As confusing as it sounds, it has actually been done before.

Hairspray was originally a comedy movie, before being adapted for a stage musical, and then being adapted for a movie-musical in 2007.

So we wouldn’t be at all surprised if this ends up being a massive success.

Tina Fey spoke about how excited she is to work on the adaptation, comparing it to the MCU:

“I’m very excited to bring ‘Mean Girls’ back to the big screen. It’s been incredibly gratifying to see how much the movie and the musical have meant to audiences. I’ve spent sixteen years with these characters now. They are my Marvel Universe and I love them dearly.”

There is no release date announced for the movie yet, but work is expected to begin soon.
