Video: Tom Cruise’s Top 5 death-defying stunts

A man without fear

JOE

Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation is just around the corner and it looks amazing.

Here, have a look for yourself…

This franchise has become infamous for its epic action sequences and the latest instalment doesn’t disappoint.

One of the things that makes these scenes so memorable is the fact that Cruise does most of his own stunts.

To celebrate this, we’ve put together a list of our 5 favourite Tom Cruise stunts.

Fish Tank – Mission: Impossible

What a way to introduce a franchise: sixteen tons of water and one of the world’s biggest stars jumping through a pane of glass.

Cruise set the bar with this one.

Under the truck – Mission Impossible 3

Skip to the 18th minute in the video below to see a visibly nervous JJ Abrams talk about Tom Cruise’s willingness to have a truck drive over him.

God, we’d hate to be the guy responsible for driving the rig.

Knife Fight – Mission: Impossible II

They used a real knife. A. REAL. KNIFE.

Fair enough, it was connected to a cable which precisely measured where it should stop… but it’s a real knife… have we mentioned, the knife is real?

The Burj Khalifa – Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol

Tom Cruise is clearly a man who doesn’t suffer from vertigo. For Ghost Protocol, he was placed on the side of the world’s largest building.

To make this clear, he was 2,722 feet above the ground. We’d imagine that there would be plenty of stunt doubles who’d refuse to do this, never mind actual A-list stars.

Airplane stunt: Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation

If you thought all that was amazing, wait until you see the airplane sequence in the new film. It involves Cruise on the side of a plane as it takes off.

AND he did it eight times to get the shot. Here Tom Cruise, you’re either batshit brave or batshit crazy.

So there you have it, 5 of the greatest Tom Cruise stunts ever. See you all in the queue for Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation when it hits cinemas on July 30.
