Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson face off in new trailer for Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Stephen Porzio

The superhero flick is set for an Irish cinema release next month.

While it was a massive financial success, 2018’s Venom wasn’t a great movie.

That said, there were things about it that were very fun, most notably its star Tom Hardy clearly having a ball playing his character Eddie Brock as a man struggling to stay in control of his body following being infected by a parasitic alien.

As such, one hopes that its upcoming sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage gives Hardy more space to breathe and surrounds him with a better overall movie.

Based on the new action-packed trailer and the casting of Woody Harrelson as the villain of the piece – a serial killer named Cletus Kasady who morphs into Venom’s adversary Carnage – this looks to be the case.

Michelle Williams and Reid Scott from the first movie are also returning for the upcoming sequel and will join new franchise additions Naomie Harris (Skyfall) as Shriek, Kasady’s love interest, and Stephen Graham (The Irishman) as a detective hoping to use Brock to find the remains of Kasady’s murder victims.

Andy Serkis (better known in front of the camera as Gollum, King Kong, or Caesar in the Planet of the Apes movies) is directing this time around, with the script by Kelly Marcel (Fifty Shades of Grey, Cruella).

As well as starring, Hardy will also have a “story by” credit on the movie.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is currently scheduled to arrive in Irish cinemas on Wednesday, 15 September.
