The sequel to Tomb Raider has landed a very interesting director

Paul Moore

Tomb Raider sequel

We didn’t see this one coming.

While Alicia Vikander certainly brought Lara Croft to life in the most recent version of Tomb Raider, we were left unimpressed with Roar Uthaug’s film as the finale fell a bit flat.

Aside from this, the supporting characters were just bland.

This being said, there’s still plenty of guns to shoot, cliffs to climb, and tombs to raid which is why we’re optimistic that the sequel will be a marked improvement.

What we didn’t count on, though, was the involvement of Ben Wheatley behind the lens. Film fans will know that Wheatley directed Kill List, High-Rise, A Field In England, and Free Fire.

Deadline are reporting that Wheatley will be in the director’s chair and that he’ll be working off a script from his longtime collaborator Amy Jump.

At present, Wheatley is in post-production on his next film, Rebecca, but we’re really excited about one of his passion projects that he has frequently talked about, Freak Shift, which sees a band of misfits hunting down and killing underground, nocturnal monsters.

The Tomb Raider sequel is scheduled for release on 19 March, so he’s going to be a busy man.

Here’s what happened when our own Rory Cashin met Alicia Vikander ahead of the release of the first film.
