#TRAILERCHEST: Here is Margot Robbie at her darkly foul-mouthed best in our first look at I, Tonya

Based on the incredible, borderline unbelievable true story.

Rory Cashin

“America want someone to love. But America also wants someone to hate.”

Welcome to #TrailerChest, where we’re taking a sneak peek at the brand new trailer for I, Tonya.

Plot’s it all about? Our love for Margot Robbie has been well documented, between our general love-in with her back when we chatted to her in the lead-up to playing Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, and managing to steal the limelight on The Graham Norton Show even as she shares the couch with Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling and Reece Witherspoon.

In short, Robbie is great, and with I, Tonya, it looks like the Academy Awards folks are finally going to be in agreement with us.

Tonya Harding never got much attention on this side of the Atlantic, but in America, her story is infamous. She was the first American woman to complete a triple axel in competition, but her legacy was forever defined by her association with an infamous, ill-conceived, and even more poorly executed attack on fellow Olympic competitor Nancy Kerrigan (played by relative newcomer Caitlin Carver).

The early reviews from the festival circuit are comparing the movie to the likes of Fargo and other darkly comedic crime thrillers, and the word is strong that Robbie will most likely be looking at a Best Actress Nomination.

Having said that, the 2018 Oscars is going to be quite the competition as she’ll be up against the likes of Sally Hawkins (The Shape Of Water), Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird), Kate Winslett (Wonder Wheel), Judi Dench (Victoria & Abdul), Jessica Chastain (Molly’s Game), Carey Mulligan (Mudbound), Annette Benning (Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool), and as are the rules of every Oscars, Meryl Streep (The Post).

And they’re just the ones we can think of off the top of our heads!

Starring: Margot Robbie, Bobby Cannavale, Sebastian Stan and Allison Janney.

Directed by: Craig Gillespie (Lars And The Real Girl)

Irish release date: 16 February 2018

Enjoy!
