#TRAILERCHEST: Netflix have created their own version of Fargo with comedy-thriller Shimmer Lake

“I’m giving this town a bath.”

Welcome to #TrailerChest, where we’re taking a sneak peek at the brand new trailer for Shimmer Lake.

Plot’s it all about?

Isolated small-town America? Check.

Darkly comic? Check.

Bursts of sudden and intense violence? Check.

A complicated plot filled with people who don’t seem to fully comprehend what’s going on? Check check check.

To be fair, if you’re going take inspiration from a movie, it may as well be a modern classic like Fargo, and it looks like Netflix have decked out their dark comedy thriller with some great talent.

This is writer/director Uziel’s first time in the director’s chair, but he has previously written the script for the better-than-the-original 22 Jump Street, so he certainly knows his way around a joke.

Add in to that the cast which have been plucked from some of the best recent comedies on TV and in cinemas including The US Office, Happy Endings, Pitch Perfect, Hot Tub Time Machine, Search Party and more besides, there isn’t a weak link in the line-up.

Plus there’s the original(ish) way the story is set to be presented, starting at the end and making it’s way backwards in a Memento-esque manner, which should keep viewers guessing as to how things could get so messed up along the way.

Once it does come up, we fully expect we’ll be needing to update our Top Ten Netflix Original Movies list accordingly.

Starring: Rainn Wilson, Rob Corddry, Wyatt Russell, Adam Pally, John Michael Higgins, Ron Livingston, Stephaine Sigman

Directed by: Oren Uziel

Irish release date: 9 June (exclusively on Netflix)

Enjoy!
