Turns out Daniel Day-Lewis loves reality TV just as much as you do

Daniel Day-Lewis

Didn’t see this one coming, admittedly.

Daniel Day-Lewis is well known for taking his work very seriously indeed, famously ‘going method’ for the vast majority of roles.

One such endeavour saw him catch pneumonia while on the set of Gangs of New York, having refused to change a light coat for a heavier one.

While unquestionably one of our greatest living actors, Day-Lewis has been accused of perhaps taking himself a bit too seriously at times, but that’s not the case at all according to director Paul Thomas Anderson.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel’s couch to promote new film Phantom Thread – which boasts what is reportedly Day-Lewis’ final ever onscreen performance – the director set the record straight.

“I think the impression people might get about Daniel is that he’s very serious… He’s not. No, he’s not.”

After confirming that the actor does indeed stay in character for “months” at a time, Anderson declared that Day-Lewis has “the worst taste in television”, citing an apparent obsession with a certain nude-themed survival show.

“He would say, ‘You’ve got to see Naked and Afraid! Each week he’d tune in.”

So yeah, can’t say we predicted that one. Watch the full clip below, in which PTA opens up further on the madness of his actor’s method.
