Twitter reacts to the news that Sony has cancelled The Interview
Twitter has its say on news that Seth Rogen and James Franco's new film won't be released.
In case you did't hear the news overnight, Sony has made the monumental decision to pull the release of their new satirical film The Interview because of cyber terror threats.
In the film, Rogen and Franco play a news journalist and producer who travel to North Korea in an effort to be taken seriously, but the film has been targeted by the North Korean regime as slanderous and offensive.
Conspiracy theorists believe that the Communist state may have some involvement with the recent spate of cyber hacks on the company although this remains unproven.
The reason for the film's cancellation though was because hackers promised "9/11-style" attacks on any theatres that went ahead and screened the comedy.
Sony Pictures has since made the unprecedented decision to pull the film's theatrical release due to the threats made by these hackers and quite a lot of actors, directors and celebrities have shared their feelings on the issue:
I think it is disgraceful that these theaters are not showing The Interview. Will they pull any movie that gets an anonymous threat now?

Really hard to believe this is the response to a threat to freedom of expression here in America.#TheInterview

Don't stop making ballsy movies.

Dear Sony Hackers: now that u run Hollywood, I'd also like less romantic comedies, fewer Michael Bay movies and no more Transformers.

. @JuddApatow I agree wholeheartedly. An un-American act of cowardice that validates terrorist actions and sets a terrifying precedent.

Everyone who went to the premiere of "The Interview" needs to start recounting every detail, so it can be passed down via oral tradition.

Saw @Sethrogen at JFK. Both of us have never seen or heard of anything like this. Hollywood has done Neville Chamberlain proud today.

@owen_g Could this be the greatest PR stunt in Hollywood history? When The Interview does (inevitably) open, millions flock defiantly to see

This only guarantees that this movie will be seen by more people on Earth than it would have before. Legally or illegally all will see it.

Time for a theatrical rerelease of Team America, i think!

And this is what James Franco tweeted a few hours after hearing the news. Odd lad.
