Universal’s upcoming thriller Cocaine Bear is exactly what you think it is about

Seriously, that might be the greatest movie title of all time.

We could – and will – go into more detail on this, but really, it isn’t going to get any better than that headline.

Cocaine Bear. Somehow based on a true story. What’s not to love?

Elizabeth Banks, still best known in front of the camera for her turns in The Hunger Games and The 40-Year-Old Virgin, has been hired by Universal to direct this comedy-thriller inspired by true events that took place in 1985.

As reported by The New York Times at the time, a large black bear happened across a duffle bag in the wild, and proceeded to consume the contents of said bag. The bag happened to be ditched by a local drug smuggler, and the contents included lots and LOTS of cocaine.

Hence, Cocaine Bear. (Which, to be clear, is the working title at the moment.)

Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The LEGO Movie, Into The Spider-Verse, 21 Jump Street) are set to produce the movie, and while Banks has some experience behind the camera (Pitch Perfect 2, the recent Charlie’s Angels update), she was recently set to have The Invisible Woman – which is, somehow, not a sequel/spin-off to The Invisible Man – next on her director’s plate.

It is unclear if the plot of Cocaine Bear will follow the exact story of what happened back in 1985, but The Hollywood Reporter states that “The exact plot details for the film, which is eyeing a summer shoot date, are being kept under wraps.”

But we can probably go ahead and unwrap that for you: Big bear eats loads of cocaine. Chaos ensues.

And we can’t wait!
