Veteran Star Wars composer to make sure that Solo: A Star Wars Story at least sounds good

Now this is more like it.

There’s already been a few bumps in the road with regards to the next Star Wars film in the enduring franchise, with the original directors of Solo: A Star Wars Story leaving the project amidst the dreaded “creative differences.”

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were quickly replaced by Ron Howard, as rumours of reshoots ala Rogue One filled the Hollywood gossip columns.

However, Solo will have at least one big positive going for it that Rogue One didn’t; veteran composer John Williams will write the theme music.

Variety reported the news following an exclusive interview with Williams, who will work in tandem with primary composer John Powell.

“The present plan is that I’m writing a theme for Han Solo, and John Powell is going to write the score, which he’ll do brilliantly,” Williams said.

“His assignment is something I’m very happy about,” he added. “What I will do is offer this to John, and to Ron Howard, and if all parties are happy with it, then I will be happy.”

Williams took home an Oscar for his work on A New Hope in 1977, and Solo will mark his ninth original effort for the saga, as Rogue One was scored by long-time JJ Abrams collaborator Michael Giacchino.

Solo: A Star Wars Story, with Alden Ehrenreich in the title role and Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, is set to hit cinema screens on 25 May, 2018.
