Video: Blacksmith makes his own incredible, fully-working, set of Wolverine claws… and then proves just how well they work

We wants them, we needs them, we must have them Precious... wrong film, right sentiment.

With Comic-Con taking place in San Diego this week, and the new Wolverine film due out in Irish cinemas on July 25th, it’s no surprise that X-Men-related nerd activity has been ramped all the way up to 11 of late.

Our favourite of the bunch so far?

Meet Tony Swatton, the brilliant blacksmith who has created his very own, FULLY-WORKING, personalised set of iconic Wolverine claws out of tempered steel. His cardboard versions aren’t quite as impressive and he clearly wasn’t able to get his hands on any adamantium.

Having made aluminium, authentic-looking props before, and with the films using only CGI versions, Swatton explains the difficult process behind the actual construction of the razor-sharp claws, and then goes on to prove their lethal effectiveness – mainly by destroying a Blu-ray copy of X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Ah, the iron-y.

And sure, Swatton doesn’t seem to be in quite the same shape as the man-machine that is Hugh Jackman, but we’re not going to say that to his face, are you?
