Video: Check out the dramatic first trailer for X-Men: Days Of Future Past

"I don't want your suffering. I don't want your future."

Eoghan Doherty

Bryan Singer, the director of arguably the two best X-Men films (so far), returns to helm the seventh installment in the mutant movie franchise, X-Men: Days Of Future Past.

The new film involves a huge cast of heroes and villains as the stars of both the older and newer films now unite to fight a war for the survival of the species, time-travelling and battling across two time periods in a fight that must change their past in order to save their future.

The eagerly-anticipated first trailer has now arrived and its heavy, weighty feel fits in with Singer’s comments that this new film will be more of a character-driven piece. We know this because many characters meaningfully stare at each other while dramatic music swells in the background.

X-Men veterans Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and Hugh Jackman return, as do their younger selves in the form of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and, ahmm, Hugh Jackman again.

Here at JOE though we’re most excited about Irishman Fassbender returning as the bad-ass basta*d that is Magneto and, who knows, maybe his now infamous Irish accent form the climax of X-Men: First Class will also make a return – “Howya buddy, I’m Magneto and I’m bleedin’ deadly.”

X-Men: Days Of Future Past is scheduled for release in Irish cinemas on 22 May 2014.
