The runaway leader for man of the year was all class again last night, as he sang his favourite tune on RTE.
The Late Late last night was pretty stacked, with the Anchorman cast ‘on’ the show (it was a pre-record) but there was no doubt who the real star of the show was.
Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield is in town (he is in Dublin this afternoon signing copies of his book if you are around O’Connell Street) and he sat down to talk to Tubs about his remarkable year.
As you will now, Hadfield sent back many amazing images of Ireland, and other places, from space and he generated a huge interest in the International Space Station by his excellent use of Twitter to engage the world.
Probably his biggest hit was when he recorded a version of David Bowie’s Space Oddity while floating in an actual tin can (sorry NASA) above the Earth.
That video, posted shortly before he returned from space, has garnered almost 20,000,000 views on YouTube to date and he was good enough to recreate his performance on the late Late last night.

Okay, RTE didn’t have the facilities to produce zero gravity but it was still a great performance and Hadfield can really sing.
