VIDEO: ‘Friday Night Lights’ creator Peter Berg returns to high school football with ‘QB1’

A spiritual sequel to one of our favourite series of all time.

Great news for anyone who still misses Friday Night Lights, Peter Berg’s seminal look at the life of a small Texas town and its high school football team – Berg is back with QB1: Beyond the Lights, a documentary that returns to the world of high school football.

Presented in ten parts, it shows the final seasons of three of the country’s top high school quarter-backs – Tate Martell, Jake Fromm, and Tayvon Bowers – following them as they seek to prove themselves both on and off the field.

The documentary seeks to get to the same level of drama seen in Friday Night Lights, from the novel to the film to the TV series, albeit in a real world setting.

For now, QB1: Beyond The Lights is only available on Go90 in the United States but we’re hopeful that the nice people of Netflix will strike a deal to stream it in Ireland.

Fingers crossed.

This clip looks at Martell of Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, as he looks ahead to another perfect season.
