A new record in the realm.
Much like a ravenous swathe of White Walkers that descend on The Wall, Game of Thrones shows no signs of slowing down in its bid for global TV domination as the HBO smash-hit was the big winner at the Emmy’s, taking home a record 12 gongs.
That’s still a smaller number than the amount of our favourite characters that have been killed off in the show but they’re obviously doing something right in Westeros!
Of the major accolades, Peter Dinklage won for his supporting turn as Tyrion while the show also came out on top in the categories of best directing (David Nutter for the Mother’s Mercy episode) and best writing.
The incredibly slate of shows that HBO have commissioned has rightfully won acclaim with a total of 43 wins while Viola Davis made history as the first woman of colour to take home the prize for outstanding actress in a drama.
The night wasn’t all dull speeches and shiny awards though because Ricky Gervais once again cracked everyone up by ‘pretending’ to award himself with an Emmy.
This speech is great but his actual reaction when the names are being called out in his category are even better. The man does not give a single f**k.
I still haven’t adjusted to the fact that Jon Stewart isn’t on The Daily Show anymore, I probably never will, but it was nice to see the gifted host winning the gong for his brilliant work on his final season and yet again, he brought the laughs.
