Video: John Oliver praises the Irish stance on cigarette packaging and slaughters tobacco companies

Doesn't it make you proud to be Irish?

JOE

Jeff the diseased lung, in a cowboy hat.

Mascot of the century, Jeff the diseased lung, is fast becoming a global icon after John Oliver brilliantly took the mickey out of certain tobacco giants in his latest video

In a brilliant three minute speech, the comedian highlights how Ireland has become the first country in the EU – and the second in the world – to introduce plain packaged cigarettes under the duress of threatening letters from the companies.

Referring to a previously suggested compromise, the comedian says Marlboro should be allowed to have a mascot, that is of course, as long as it is Jeff, the diseased lung in a cowboy hat

The show finishes with Jeff doing a synchronized dance, which he can’t manage to finish because he collapses in a chesty cough.

All that in three and a half minutes, well worth a watch!
