Video: Jon Stewart’s reaction to the Charleston church shooting is a must-see

"This one is black and white. There's no nuance here."

Conor Heneghan

We’re going to miss this guy when he’s gone.

America is still reeling from an attack in South Carolina on Wednesday night in which nine people were shot and killed by a gunman in a prominent African-American church in Charleston.

Not for the first time, the massacre has brought America’s controversial gun legislation and its tricky relationship with race into the spotlight and Jon Stewart wasn’t beating around the bush when addressing those issues on the Daily Show last night.

Stewart, who will, sadly, soon be departing the Daily Show, can always be relied upon to provide the best response to major events in America, often doing so with a trace of humour while never veering away from the serious issue at hand.

On last night’s show, humour was far from Stewart’s mind but it was still one of the most memorable speeches he has given to date.

Fair play.
