JOE has been the official president of the Noel Gallagher fan club ever since we first saw him play live in ’96 and when we say ‘him’ we really mean it.

Oasis fans of a certain age might remember the time when Liam was famously  out in Temple Bar  struck down with laryngitis before the bands Dublin date around Christmas in ’96 but Noel cemented his hero status by stepping up and delivering a blinding solo acoustic gig and a famous appearance on the Late Late Show.

In the interest of fairness, this concert was also the very first gig that this writer attended and the love affair with ‘the worlds greatest interviewee’ has only grown stronger over the years.

Small snippets of this interview have been online for quite some time now but the full-length version has just recently been uploaded and it’s superb.

Take a listen as the former Oasis guitarist talks to Gay Byrne about his Irish heritage, the Brit-pop rivalry with Blur and how his Mayo mam solved any fights with Liam.

He also fielded some questions from the crowd including how long he felt Oasis’ career would last, if he was afraid of suffering from writers block and his frosty relationship with the media at the time.

Oh yeah, he also played two incredible versions of Wonderwall and Live Forever and wore one of the worst shirt of all-time.

Take a look.
