VIDEO: Ricky Gervais reveals that David Brent’s dream duet is “a lovely little ginger fella”

A match made in middle of the road heaven.

David Brent: Life On The Road hits Irish movie screens on August 19 and hopes are high that Ricky Gervais can capture the magic of the central character we first cringed at, but ultimately fell in love with, on The Office.

When you talk about The Office now, you have to qualify it by saying whether it’s the UK or US version you’re gabbling on about. But whilst Steve Carrell’s Michael Scott character has his moments, there is nothing there to match the humour, cringe and heart of the original.

Life On The Road sees Brent finally embrace the career he was always destined for – a musical entertainer with his touring band, Foregone Conclusion. With Brent/Gervais we’ve always sensed that the lines between character and creator are blurred  – Gervais himself was part of a modestly unsuccessful 80s group called Seona Dancing, both of whose singles failed to break the UK Top 40.

Gervais spoke to JOE about Brent’s dream duet and how DB would put some noses out of joint on Twitter (like his creator then so).

David Brent: Life On The Road hits Irish Cinemas on August 19.
