The Meaning of Life is broadcast this Sunday night on RTÉ One.

Having discussed his atheism in the most searingly honest way possible, Stephen Fry tells Gay Byrne about his one-time addiction to cocaine.

“If there’s anything I hate, it’s a party,” Fry tells the former host of The Late Late Show, who goes on to explain how taking the drug enabled him to paper over the mental health issues that he still struggles with today.

Talking about how drugs and alcohol took over at one point, Fry says: “It was a terrible waste. I could have done so much more (with my life). Not to mention the waste of money!”

The Meaning of Life will be broadcast on Sunday night at 10.30pm. It is not to be missed.
