The original was one of JOE’s favourite action flicks of the last decade or so and the sequel looks as it will live up to and possibly even exceed the lofty expectations.

The Raid 2: Berandal doesn’t hang around in that it picks up the story a mere two hours after it was left off at the end of the original film, The Raid: Redemption, directed by Gareth Evans, which explored the Indonesian criminal underworld and the use of the tradition Indonesian martial art, Pencak Silat.

Evans and main star Iko Uwais are back for the sequel with Uwais’ character (Rama) going undercover in an Indonesian crime syndicate to expose police corruption and to protect his own family in the process.

Fans of the first film can expect to see even more high-octane action sequences and brilliantly choreographed fight scenes and while Evans has admitted that the Indonesian trailer above might give away a little bit about the film’s opening sequence, it certainly helps whet the appetite for one of the most anticipated releases of 2014.

The Raid 2: Berandal will be broadcast at the Sundance Festival in Utah next month and while there is no official release date for this side of the world just yet, audiences can expect to see it in cinemas in the first half of next year.

We can’t wait.
