As a solid-gold VHS classic, every teenage boy we knew, including ourselves, freakin’ loved Jean-Claude Van Damme’s ‘80s and ‘90s fight fest flicks.

From Kickboxer to Hard Target JCVD was a total legend of the school playground, and many a school uniform was irreparable damaged trying to pull off some of his spin kick moves.

Now we hear that the one that started it all, Bloodsport, is set for a remake. It is being reported today that James McTeigue, the man behind V for Vendetta, is to remake the 1988 punch-heavy movie.

The original was set in Hong Kong but this one is alleged to be set in Brazil, but the format, a top secret underground fighting championship, will remain.

Shooting is set to begin in the new year, with nary a mention of Van Damme making an appearance.

But to get us over this old favourite getting remade, here’s the very best bits of the original. If you haven’t seen it, this clip contains spoilers, and lots and lots of punches, including the classic ‘splits and nut punch’.
