The promo – titled ‘Don’t Hold Back’ – was blacklisted by the national broadcaster.

Newstalk have released the advertisement that was recently banned by RTÉ, prompting the independent radio station to lodge a complaint to the Competition Authority.

RTÉ decided to ban the ad as its closing call to people to ‘Move The Dial’ contravenes the ‘codes and regulations’ out in Donnybrook.

The ad was refused on April 21st but those ‘codes and regulations’ did not appear on the RTÉ website until April 22nd. A section of the directives reads:

Advertisements should not implicitly, or explicitly, either denigrate or claim superiority over any other broadcasting service nor should they exhort listeners to switch radio channels.

The national broadcaster claims, however, that the guidelines have been in wide circulation in the industry f0r many years.
