My name is Kyyyerrmit the frog...

And the Oscar for the Best Silly Accent goes to…

Based on the novel by Tom Rob Smith and set in the Soviet Union during the first half of the 20th Century, Child 44 stars JOE favourite Tom Hardy as a Russian military man on a mission to hunt down a grisly child murderer.

Directed by Daniel Espinosa, the film also boasts a superb supporting cast, including JOE friend Gary Oldman alongside Noomi Rapace, Jason Clarke, Paddy Considine and Vincent Cassel.

Not exactly a barrel of laughs, we know.

What is funny, however, is that the film is yet another Hollywood example of having non-native actors speaking English in their supposed native foreign accent. In this case, it’s Russia.

Not unlike Kermit’s arch-nemesis Constantine in Muppets Most Wanted…

All hilaaaarious joking aside, however, the last time that Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman teamed up for a tense thriller it was in 2011’s superb Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, so we have very high hopes for Child 44.

Child 44 will be released in Irish cinemas on 17 April 2015.
