Video: Try not to let the honest trailer for Home Alone ruin your Christmas

Despite the fact that this honest trailer tells a few brutal home truths, this does not mean that you should abandon the annual ritual of watching Home Alone this Christmas.

Despite the fact that this honest trailer tells a few brutal home truths, this does not mean that you should abandon the annual ritual of watching Home Alone this Christmas.

Such is the enduring appeal of Home Alone that this Christmas, kids and adults alike will sit down and watch it at some stage or, in many cases, repeatedly, over the festive season; it’s funny, it’s cheeky and it’s just what you need to get you into the Christmas spirit.

Delve into the subject matter deep enough, however, and there are a lot of disturbing elements that may have gone unnoticed, but not by the folks at Honest Trailers, whose latest effort puts the Christmas classic under the microscope.

Describing it, quite accurately, as “one of the most violent kids movies ever made,” John Hughes’ masterpiece is held up as “one part Ferris Bueller, one part Saw” while the McCallisters are painted as the “worst family ever” and the plight of Kevin is summed up in the line, “Years of neglect and abuse take their toll on a small child”.

Although harsh, it’s hard to argue with some of the conclusions drawn by the Honest Trailer folks, but after enjoying the trailer above, rid your mind of some of the more disturbing aspects of the movie and enjoy it as per usual when it appears a million times on various channels over the coming weeks.

It’s what Kevin would have wanted.
