Video: Try to stay calm 90s kids, but there’s a movie based on Saved by the Bell on the way

It’s unauthorised and the trailer doesn’t exactly look promising, but who cares, this is Saved by the Bell we’re talking about.

To readers born after 1989 this might not mean a whole lot, but to a certain generation of Irish people, this means everything. It never actually turned out that way but we all grew up thinking that our lives in secondary school were going to be exactly like those lived by the gorgeous Kelly Kapowski, the muscular AC Slater, the sassy Lisa Turtle, the geeky Screech and, of course, the lovable rogue Zack Morris.

More than 20 years since the show finished up for good, it has emerged that Lifetime will be making a film about the TV series and according to Jezebel, it will be based on a brilliantly-titled tell-all book entitled ‘Behind the Bell’ by Dustin Diamond (Screech to you and me) which did not go down well with his fellow SBTB co-stars because a lot of dirt was dished in their direction.

Judging by the trailer, Saved by the Bell fans might be uncomfortable with some of the material and some of the actors bear only the slightest resemblance to the characters they’re meant to portray, but we’re still willing to give it a chance.

After all, if the upcoming movie can go anywhere near to replicating the, ahem, incredibly high quality of previous Saved by the Bell movies – 1992’s Saved by the Bell: Hawaiian Style and 1994’s Saved by the Bell: Wedding in Las Vegas – then we’re in for a treat.
