Walking Dead stunt-man dies from injuries received while filming the new series

A tragic accident has taken place on the set of the new series of The Walking Dead.

Currently filming scenes for the eighth season, which is due for release this October, a stunt-man has died from the injuries received while on-set.

AMC, the U.S. station that broadcasts the show, released a statement on the incident:

“We are saddened to report that John Bernecker, a talented stuntman for The Walking Dead and numerous other television shows and films, suffered serious injuries from a tragic accident on set. He was immediately transported to an Atlanta hospital and we have temporarily shut down production. We are keeping John and his family in our thoughts and prayers.”

Bernecker had previously provided stunt-work for the movies such as Logan, Fast & Furious 8, The Hunger Games and 22 Jump Street.

According to Variety, a spokesperson for the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists also released a statement, saying that they will be looking into the incident on the Georgia set, where Bernecker is said to have fallen 20 feet and landed on a concrete floor:

“We have been informed of a serious injury to a SAG-AFTRA member on the set of The Walking Dead and are investigating the situation. As always, the safety and security of our members and others on set is of crucial concern to us, and we are focused on this in our investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the performer and his family.”
