The latest footage looks breathtaking.

Planet Earth II was one of the the greatest TV events of 2016 and, while the majority of us were sad to see its emotional finale, this blow was softened by the news that Sir David Attenborough will be returning to our screens with Blue Planet II.

The show will be broadcast on BBC One later this year and from what we’ve already heard and seen, it’s set to be unmissable TV.

With the support of various marine scientists, BBC’s Natural History Unit spent four years filming the marine life in various different continents and oceans for the upcoming show.

We’ve been promised “unbelievable new places, extraordinary new behaviours and remarkable new creatures. Showing a contemporary portrait of marine life, it will provide a timely reminder that this is a critical moment for the health of the world’s oceans.”

If you saw Blue Planet II then you’ll know that one of the best additions was the iconic theme tune that was supplied by the legendary Oscar winner Hans Zimmer.

Fans of the show will delighted to know that he’s coming back to work with the BBC on Blue Planet II.

“It’s an incredible opportunity and privilege to be working again with the BBC’s Natural History Unit on such a globally important project,” Zimmer said in a statement. “It’s a joy to compose to such beautiful, powerful and inspiring picture. Once more the BBC has raised the bar and we intend to rise to the challenge.”

BBC America’s president Sarah Barnett added, “The incredible visual stories captured in ‘Planet Earth II’ were rendered all the more powerful and vivid thanks to Hans’ genius musical scoring of the series. He will bring that same deep brilliance to bear as we plunge into the mystery and enchantment of the world’s oceans.  ‘Blue Planet II’ is shaping up to be as unmissable as ‘Planet Earth II.”
