No, it wasn't like I had planned on getting any sleep tonight anyways...
Running for over 90 episodes from 1990 to 2000, Are You Afraid Of The Dark? was a massive generational hit for Nickelodeon, hitting that sweet spot between being scary enough to genuinely creep viewers out, but not SO scary that it would revert tweenagers to wetting-the-bed.
The show was basically about a group of friends who went into the woods and told each other scary stories, and then each episode would be a different scary story, and some of them were very scary: do you remember The Tale Of The Dark Music? The one where a teenager feeds his bullies to a musical ghost that lives in his basement? That got DARK.
Well, now that freaking teenagers out very much back in fashion (see also: Stranger Things, It: Chapter One, the similarly titled and truly creepy-looking Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark), and since reboots will NEVER go out of fashion, it was only a matter of time before Are You Afraid Of The Dark? would go full zombie and come back from the dead itself.
So now here we are, with our first mini-glimpse of the upcoming mini-series, which will consist of three episodes, each an hour-long, which will arrive on Nickelodeon this October.
Reboot writer Ben David Grabinski told Entertainment Weekly that "Are You Afraid of The Dark? was my introduction to the horror genre and made me a fan for life.
"I hope we’re lucky enough to have our series do the same. It's going to be a fun and scary ride, and I’m honored to introduce the Midnight Society to a whole new generation of kids."
