WATCH: Here’s a first look at Nidge/Tom Vaughan Lawlor playing Pádraig Pearse

Paul Moore

This looks very interesting.

TV3’s new centenary show Trial of the Century looks very interesting because it aims to provide Pádraig Pearse with the trial that he never received in real life.

The 3-part drama special casts Love/Hate star Tom Vaughan-Lawlor as rebel leader Pádraig Pearse, leader of the 1916 Easter Rising, in an imagined and alternative history which gives Pearse the trial that he never had.

Using the context of the trial, the show will then examine the many arguments that have been made for and against the 1916 Rising over the last 100 years while also looking at the the differing and contradictory things that have been said about Pearse over the last century.

The first episode will air on TV3 on Saturday 30th April and it’s focused on the British prosecution as they present their case against the Rising’s leader. Take a look at what’s in store.
