WATCH: Michael Fassbender belts out a classic Irish trad song in his new film

Paul Moore

He’s some buachaill.

We’re not privy to every single detail of Michael Fassbender’s personal life, but we’re confident in saying that the Oscar nominated actor must be pretty happy with his lot in life. Not only is he incredibly likable, talented and popular – he has two new films coming out this season with Assassin’s Creed and The Light Between Oceans – but he also recently received a very prestigious honour from his hometown in Killarney.

During this recent trip to Kerry, Fassbender was joined by his girlfriend and co-star, Oscar winning actress Alicia Vikander.

The pair got to know each other very well on the set of The Light Between Oceans and it’s very likely that Vikander became enamored with Fassbender’s rendition of Star of the County Down.

The classic ballad was written by Cathal McGarvey and it has since been covered by a host of artists like; Van Morrison, The Pogues,  John McCormack and many others.

Have a listen to Fassbender’s version that appears in the film.

All we can say is that the very talented Kerryman must be pretty handy during a lock-in.
