Netflix has unveiled an epic teaser trailer for its upcoming show Sweet Tooth, a comic book series with a twist.

Despite being based on a DC Comics property and produced by Robert Downey Jr, the show is not about superheroes – with its source material instead being described as “Mad Max meets Bambi”.

The series is set ten years after a virus dubbed “The Great Crumble” wreaked havoc on the world and led to the mysterious emergence of hybrids – babies born part human, part animal. Unsure if hybrids are the cause or result of the virus, many humans fear and hunt them.

After a decade of living safely in his secluded forest home, a sheltered hybrid deer-boy named Gus (Christian Convery) unexpectedly befriends a wandering loner named Jepperd (Nonso Anozie – Game of Thrones, Guava Island).

Together they set out on an adventure across what’s left of America in search of answers about Gus’ origins. Upon their journey, the pair meet unexpected allies and enemies, with Gus quickly learning the lush, dangerous world outside the forest is more complex than he ever could have imagined.

The series is created by Jim Mickle (Cold in July, Stake Land) and will also star Adeel Akhtar (Utopia), Dania Ramirez (Premium Rush) and Will Forte (MacGruber).

Its eight-episode first season will be released on Netflix on 4 June. Until then, check out its exciting teaser below.
