WATCH: The new show from the maker of Desperate Housewives looks like a lot of dark fun

why women kill

Why Women Kill is sure to get people talking.

Marc Cherry was the creative mind behind Desperate Housewives, a show that picked up plenty of the slack once Sex & The City went off the air, mixing that show’s upfront approach to serious issues and mixing it with a guessing game whodunnit.

In the years since then, plenty of other shows have copied that sexy/murder’y format, with the likes of Scandal, The Good Wife, How To Get Away With Murder, and many more proving to be hugely popular.

Cherry is now back with his new show Why Women Kill, and he’s got a pretty impressive cast to tell his story.

The entire show is based around one house, and the three different women who lived there in three different times in history, all of whom end up killing their husbands.

A housewife (Ginnifer Goodwin – Once Upon A Time) in the ’60s, a socialite (Lucy Liu – Charlie’s Angels) in the ’80s, and a lawyer (Kirby Howell Baptiste – Killing Eve) in 2018 will show how the roles of women have changed over the decades, but how they react to betrayal has not.

Also in the mix are Alexandra Daddario (San Andreas), Jack Davenport (Pirates Of The Caribbean), and Reid Scott (Veep), and Cherry has announced that he hopes Why Women Kill can kick off a new anthology series (like American Horror Story), with as many of the same actors playing different characters in different situations as possible.

Why Women Kill kicks off on Thursday 15 August in the U.S., but we suspect that given many of the other CBS All Access shows (The Good Fight, Star Trek Discovery, Star Trek: Picard) have ended up on Prime Video or Netflix over here, it won’t be long before a streaming service picks it up for us to enjoy.
