We’d buy that for a dollar! Detroit raises enough funds to get its very own RoboCop statue

This is one statue that the pigeons won't be shi*ting on...

Great news JOE readers (great news if you’re a JOE reader who lives in Detroit that is).

According to a story in The Hollywood Reporter, the city of Detroit, following a successful Kickstarter campaign, now has enough funds ($67, 436 to be exact) to erect a 10 foot tall bronze statue of the city’s most famous son, Officer Alex Murphy AKA RoboCop.

Eminem will be absolutely ragin’.

In the same way that Philadelphia has a brilliant statue of Rocky ‘ADRIIAAAAAAAAN’ Balboa watching over it, the Motor City plans to unveil its new statuesque, sci-fi star at some stage in 2014.

The idea for a commemorative cyborg statue came about when fans of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 classic decided to mark the character’s cultural impact in some way, and so tweeted the city’s Mayor and set up a Facebook group called “Build a statue of RoboCop in Detroit.”

Pretty imaginative title there folks.

Before the statue’s unveiling, however, the star-studded (but ultimately unnecessary) Hollywood remake will hit Irish cinemas in February 2014 – perfect timing for a gun-totin’, action packed Valentine’s Day.
