Dolla dolla bill, y’all…

Whether it’s on the big or small screen, documentary or dramatisation, the life story of a major music career often makes for great entertainment.

Many big names have enjoyed the adaptation treatment in recent years, from N.W.A. to Queen to Elton John.

One outfit more than deserving of such a venture is the revered Wu-Tang Clan.

The New York hip hop legends have been the subject of a few documentaries and have even graced the odd video game – we’ll take the Def Jam smackdowns over Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style, for the record – but their story arguably hasn’t been done justice quite yet.

Step forward Wu-Tang: An American Saga; a 10-part series that premieres on Hulu in America on 4 September.

The show is co-created and written by Wu-Tang’s RZA alongside Alex Tse, who co-penned the screenplay for Zack Synder’s 2009 crack at Watchmen.

An American Saga will both “expand and explore” the group’s legacy, presenting something of a fictionalised account of their formation and subsequent endeavours.

Per a press release issued in October of last year, the show is set in early ’90s New York at the height of the crack cocaine epidemic, presenting RZA as the focus as he “strives to unite a dozen young black men that are torn between music and crime but eventually rise to become the unlikeliest of American success stories.”

The first trailer has been released, featuring Joey Bada$$ – who showed his acting chops in Mr. Robot – as Inspectah Deck among the cast.

We’re still very much in teaser territory, but this thing looks pretty good so far.

No word on an Irish premiere yet; Hulu has the exclusive for now.
