Rick & Morty’s influence is real, as McDonald’s are bringing back Szechuan Sauce

Paul Moore

Pickle Rick always gets what he wants.

Season 3 of Rick and Morty came to a superb conclusion last night but to many, Rick’s main arc was completed after Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland achieved his main goal of getting that sweet Szechuan Sauce.

As we saw in the season opener, The Rickshank Redemption, Rick C137 was only interested in one thing:

“A-and I-I’ll go out and find some more of that Mulan, Szechuan Teriyaki dipping sauce, Morty. Wh-what are you talking about? Because that’s, that’s what this is all about Morty! Szechuan? Th-that’s my one arm man. I’m not driven by avenging my dead family. Morty, that was FAKE! I-I’m driven by finding that, McNugget Sauce. Nuggets? I want that Mulan McNugget Sauce, Morty. Mulan? That’s my series arc Morty! If it takes 9 seasons, I WANT MY MCNUGGET DIPPING SAUCE SZECHUAN SAUCE MORTY! TH-THAT’S WHAT’S GONNA TAKE US, ALL THE WAY TO THE END MORTY! SEASON, 9 MORE SEASONS MORTY! Szechuan sauce?! 9 MORE SEASONS UNTIL I GET THAT DIPPING SZECHUAN SAUCE!  FOR 97 MORE YEARS MORTY!”

Well, it’s time to squanch your brains out because McDonald’s have confirmed that they’re bringing it back.

On its website, McDonald’s says: “Szechuan Sauce fans are typically incredibly motivated, born winners that combine a sweet disposition with a slow burning heat. When these people set goals (or make outright demands), they tend to achieve them. Sometimes, their impulsivity can get them into all sorts of hijinks, but their mad genius is their portal out of trouble.”

This being said,  a company representative confirmed that the sauce would only be available in “limited quantities for a limited run available in specific restaurants for one day only.” Ah jeez!

A few weeks ago, McDonald’s brought a limited supply of the sauce back for the show’s creators – Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland – but if the sauce proves to be popular, we’re expecting it to spread into every dimension.
