The Young Offenders

Forget the World Cup! This is the trophy we wanted to take home all along!

Can we all just agree that The Young Offenders are great?

The movie was great and then the TV show was great and everyone involved making both are great.

We had a sit down with the stars of the show a while back and – guess what? – they were great.

While everyone in Ireland is clearly in agreement – the first season of the show has been nominated at this year’s IFTAs for a lot of the main awards including Best Comedy, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Writer, and so on and so on – it is fantastic to see that the show is also picking up some great international recognition, too.

This week the nominations for the Broadcasting Digital Awards were announced, and one of the big groups on the night will be the Best Comedy Programme, and – guess what? – The Young Offenders has been nominated.

The show will be up against some stiff competition, with the likes of Chewing Gum, This Country and Roast Battle UK also in the running for the prize.

Whether it wins or not, the fact that the show has garnered such attention after just one season is spectacular, and we’ll know whether or not it brings home the gold on Wednesday 4 July.

Creator of The Young Offenders Peter Foott told JOE: “It’s amazing for our show to be nominated for a Broadcast Digital Award for Best Comedy in the UK. The whole team are delighted, it’s so great for our first series to be recognised at these awards, particularly just a week after we heard the good news about our IFTA nominations.”
