An Irish artist has been named on BBC’s Sound of 2015 longlist

We can't say we're surprised.

We can’t say we’re surprised.

Derry singer-songwriter SOAK has been named on the BBC Sound of 2015 longlist which is a pretty massive deal.

That list is made by an influential panel made up of DJs, critics and broadcasters who try and predict the next big musical act.

It’s a pretty good barometer considering previous winners include Sam Smith, Adele, Jessie J, Haim and 50 Cent.

SOAK, who previously played for us at The Sunday Sessions (see below), is tipped to make a big breakthrough next year and this is the first step.

The full 15 acts on the longlist are as follows:

  • James Bay
  • George The Poet
  • Kwabs
  • Lapsley
  • Rae Morris
  • Novelist
  • Raury
  • Shamir
  • Shura
  • Slaves
  • SOAK
  • Stormzy
  • Sunset Sons
  • Wolf Alice
  • Years & Years

It’s a strong list but we’ll be rooting for SOAK all the way.

The longlist will be narrowed down to five in the first week of January, with the winner to be named on January 11.
