RTÉ Choice Prize Irish Album of the Year 2022 nominees revealed

Ten finalists have been named as delivering the best albums of 2022.

The ten finalists for the RTÉ Choice Prize Irish Album of the Year 2022 were revealed today (Monday, 7 January), revealing a wide selection of genres and performers up for the title, all celebrating the very best music created by Irish musicians throughout 2022.

Previous winners of the award include For Those I Love, Denise Chaila, O Emperor, The Gloaming and Villagers, and this year’s ten nominees are as follows:

Aoife Nessa Frances | Protector

Just Mustard | Heart Under

Dermot Kennedy | Sonder

The Mary Wollopers | The Mary Wallopers

Anna Mieke | Theatre

Pillow Queens | Leave The Light On

Sorcha Richardson | Smiling Like An Idiot

THUMPER | Delusions Of Grandeur

RTÉ have announced that this is “Shortlist Announcement Week”, so expect to see more nominees – including those up for RTÉ Choice Music Prize Song of the Year – in the coming days, including:

  • Irish Artist of the Year – shortlist Tuesday 10 January
  • Irish Breakthrough Artist – shortlist Wednesday 11 January
  • Classic Irish Album – further details Thursday 12 January
  • Irish Song of the Year – shortlist Friday 13 January

The Irish Album of the Year 2022, along with the four prizes above, will be announced live from Vicar St on RTÉ 2FM in a special show 7-11pm on Thursday 9 March.

The winning AOTY act will receive €10,000, a prize fund which has been provided by The Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and The Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA). All shortlisted acts will receive a specially commissioned award.
