Quite the honour.

Irish music festival favourite Electric Picnic is returning to Stradbally this September and already the excitement for the event is extremely high.

That is according to a new study by British hotel chain Premier Inn which found that the three-day Laois event is one of this year’s most highly anticipated music festivals worldwide.

As part of its research, Premier Inn looked at the combined Spotify streams for the top five headliners at 112 music festivals in 31 countries, as well as Google search data regarding the events and each festival’s attendance capacity.

Electric Picnic 2023 ranked in third place in the study, with its headliners this year including Billie Eilish, Fred Again, The Killers, Lewis Capaldi and Niall Horan.

According to Premier Inn, there were over 208,000 Google searches for its tickets made in the past 12 months, while Eilish alone garners 54 million monthly Spotify listeners.

Electric Picnic 2023 kicks off on 1 September

Coming in first place, meanwhile, as the most anticipated music festival of 2023 was Poland’s Open’er Festival. The event is set to feature the Arctic Monkeys, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Nas X, Lizzo and SZA this year, who receive a combined 212.9 million Spotify listeners each month.

In second place was Roskilde Festival in Denmark which also boasts Kendrick Lamar and Lizzo as headliners among others.

Electric Picnic will be held from 1 – 3 September and you can check out JOE’s account of last year’s iteration of the event right here.
