Bono really doesn’t care if you hate U2

The band play their first show since 2009 in Dublin tonight

Bono says that he really doesn’t care if people hate U2’s music, as they were never a band to ‘unite’ people.

Speaking to Dave Fanning on 2fm, Bono says he takes criticism of the band as a compliment and he doesn’t care if people see the band as ‘uncool.’

U2 play the first of four sold out shows at Dublin’s 3Arena on Monday night.

“I take it as a compliment. We were always the band to divide people, not to unite people,” he said.

“To sing ‘In the name of love, what more in the name of love’, it was as uncool in 1984 as it is now.

“And that’s why people came through the doors, because someone was going to say it. To sing about your faith, how uncool is that in rock and roll. To sing about your mother. Come on, it’s like ‘shut up’.

“Except John Lennon did it. Kurt Cobain did it. Eminem has done it.”
