Much has been said and written about Noel Gallagher’s absence from Sunday evening’s One Love Manchester concert, largely due to his brother’s reaction to it.
Liam Gallagher, who was a surprise performer at the benefit concert, criticised his older sibling for not making an appearance in a series of tweets sent on Monday morning.
Liam’s performance of ‘Live Forever‘, which was dedicated to the 22 people that lost their lives in the Manchester Bombing last month, saw him join forces with Coldplay’s Chris Martin. Prior to Liam’s arrival on stage, Coldplay had also performed Oasis’ ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’, a song written by Noel.
Now, two days on from the event, the Coldplay frontman has thanked Noel for allowing them to use his songs for the concert in a tweet sent from the band’s official Twitter account.
1/ thank you @noelgallagher for giving your blessing and encouragement to play don't look back in anger and live forever on sunday

As well as this, he also made clear that it was known prior to the concert that Noel was not able to be there in person.
2/ everyone knew in advance you couldn't be there physically, so thank you for being there in spirit

3/ and for lending us those incredible songs. love cm

As pointed out by The Independent, a statement released on behalf of Noel before One Love Manchester made clear that the former Oasis man would not be in attendance due to a ‘longstanding family holiday’.
“Sadly, Noel will not be at the concert this weekend,” the statement explained.
“He’s been out of the country on a long-standing family trip since before the concert was announced and is unable to attend.
“Needless to say he is very supportive of the event and wishes everyone huge success on the day.”
His representatives have indicated since the event that he will not be making any further comment.
