JOE’S Song Of The Day #844 – Columbia Mills ‘Strange Game’

Dave Hanratty

Columbia Mills Song Of The Day

Oh, the games we play.

An outfit that defiantly doesn’t deal in gimmicks or crowd-pleasing chicanery, Columbia Mills return with the first single from their sophomore album.

Said album is due next year, but for now the five-piece are playing a ‘Strange Game’, so to speak.

Feet firmly planted in the trenches of a relationship informed by addiction and depression, the track glides along in the vein of The National, in search of hopeful answers.

“There may have been part of the addiction that formed the relationship in the first place and without it there’s an empty space,” offers vocalist and guitarist Fiachra Treacy, as he aims for the balance between “a boring sober relationship and an exciting, chaos-laden life”.

A tough ask, and no mistake.
