It’s a well-known science fact that every household in Ireland contains at least three copies of Damien Rice’s classic debut album, O (2002). Fans of the superb singer-songwriter and amazing album will be delighted with the brilliant news that iconic Dublin music venue Whelan’s has announced that the Kildare crooner is to take to the stage on Tuesday 13th May as part of the bar’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

See? Told you.

Rice had already confirmed that he would be playing in South Korea and Switzerland later this year – two of the world’s hotspots when it comes to melancholic, soulful singing, obviously – but Irish fans can rest easy now that the terrific talent is returning to home shores to gig once more.

You can find out more information about the gig on Whelan’s website here, and tickets for the concert, priced at €25, will go on sale tomorrow (Thursday 8th May) at 9am from WhleansLive.com.

To whet your aural appetite in the meantime, here’s a wee blast of Volcano, a deadly duet from that awesome album O we talked about, alongside the lovely Lisa Hannigan…
