JOE’s Song Of The Day #842 – Dylan Murphy ‘Vending Machine’

Dave Hanratty

Dylan Murphy Song Of The Day

Insert coin.

Born in Limerick, based in Galway and armed with a feverish passion for the likes of Tom Waits, Randy Newman, Rory Gallagher and Jack White, Dylan Murphy isn’t backwards in coming forwards.

Though he’s lived all over the globe, Galway is the musical HQ for Murphy, where he plays a regular role with local music collective Citóg Records.

As for his own material, brand new blues offering ‘Vending Machine’ should give you a decent flavour, not least because it boasts the dulcet tones of Emma Langford on backing vocals.

The track has its roots in the abstract, as Murphy, inspired by writing from the point of view of an inanimate object, captures the loneliness and frustration of “such a transactional existence”.

A hard sell, perhaps, but he makes it sing.
