Very sad news.

Eamonn Campbell, a former guitarist with legendary Irish band The Dubliners, has passed away at the age of 70.

The sad news was confirmed in a post on Facebook on Wednesday night by The Dublin Legends, a band Campbell had been performing with since The Dubliners retired in 2012.

“We are very sad and devastated to announce that our friend and colleague Eamonn Campbell has died after a short illness,” the statement read.

“Eamonn was a true legend and brilliant guitar player. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and family. He will be greatly missed by all his friends and fans around the world. We are heartbroken and we thank you all for your thoughts and prayers at this time.

“Seán, Gerry & Paul ‘The Dublin Legends’.”

Campbell, who hailed from Drogheda, had been performing music professionally since the 1960s and joined The Dubliners in the 1980s. He also worked as a producer for Irish music acts such as Foster and Allen and Philomena Begley.

He’ll be sorely missed.
