Try not to panic Ed Sheeran fans, but he might be about to stop making music in the near future

This will not come as welcome news for Ed’s millions of fans around the world.

Ed Sheeran is undoubtedly one of the biggest acts in the music business right now, but he might be about to disappear off the radar altogether in the near future if certain reports are to be believed.

Sources close to the singer/songwriter told the Daily Star that quitting music altogether, or at least for an extended period of time, could be on the table once he’s finished his current tour, during which he played two gigs at Dublin’s 3 Arena earlier this month.

Sheeran is currently basking in the massive success of his most recent album, Divide (÷), but a source reportedly close to the singer told the Daily Star that a desire for “a more normal life” could put a halt to his career, or at least lead to a lengthy hiatus.

“Ed has pretty much achieved everything there is to achieve in music,” the source told the paper.

“He absolutely loves what he does and is riding the wave of his success at the moment, but at the same time he wants a more normal life.”

Sheeran released Divide having taken a year out from recording and touring and would appear to be open to slipping away from the limelight again in the very near future, particularly if he decides to start a family.

Sheeran has been dating Cherry Seaborn, whom he met in school, for the last two years.

“When or if he gets married he wants to put his wife and kids first and not his career. If that means going AWOL for years then so be it,” the source added.

“When they got together Ed was on his year off but every day in his schedule for the next year is practically full.”

UPDATE: Ed himself appears to have given short shrift to the rumours, judging by the brief but emphatic response on his official Twitter account on Monday morning…
