An Ed Sheeran festival has been announced for Galway next month

Conor Heneghan

Ed Sheeran festival

Ed does have a special affinity with the place after all.

Galway city, where Ed Sheeran once busked on the streets and penned a song with its name in the title, will host a festival in honour of the singer-songwriter next month.

Ed will be performing in Pearse Stadium in Galway on 12 and 13 May and to coincide with his appearance in the west, the city will host an Ed Sheeran festival in the Latin Quarter from Thursday 10 to Sunday 13 May.

Highlights of the festival include Ed Sheeran DJ sets and tribute acts playing in the bars, Ed Sheeran-themed shop fronts and window displays, Ed Sheeran buskers on the streets, an Ed Sheeran look-alike competition, Ed Sheeran-inspired food and drinks in bars and restaurants and some surprises.

The Latin Quarter is calling on the entire city to join in the festivities and to ‘paint the town Ed’ for the weekend.

Over 60,000 people will be attending the concerts in Pearse Stadium, but the festival offers a chance for anyone who didn’t get tickets to join in the festivities and organisers are even hoping that Ed himself might attend.

More details on the festival are available on The Latin Quarter website and the Latin Quarter Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages and via the hashtag #EdFestGalway.
