JOE’s Song Of The Day #856 – Elaine Mai ‘Heartbeat’

Dave Hanratty

Elaine Mai Heartbeat

A beautiful personal ode from the Mayo artist.

A specialist in explorative electronica, Elaine Mai is back with arguably her most personal song to date.

There’ll always be competition with 2017’s heartfelt ‘The Colour of the Night’ for such an honour, but brand new track ‘Heartbeat’ couldn’t be more appropriately titled.

“I wrote ‘Heartbeat’ for my wife Roisín after we got married in the summer of 2018,” says Mai.

“It was three years after Ireland voted to legalise same-sex marriage and it felt amazing to celebrate with our friends and family after canvassing for a yes vote together.

“One of my friends recorded our wedding video so I was able to take some of the ambient noise from our wedding day and layer it into the track. I wanted to write a song that captured how I feel about her and to remember that time in our lives.”

In that regard, she has succeeded and then some.

Check it out below, and if you like what you hear you can catch Elaine live at the Future Proof Sessions in Bello Bar, Dublin on Thursday 12 December.
