An achingly relevant piece for 2019.
The audio-visual marriage between Ryan Vail and Eoin O’Callaghan, aka Elma Orkestra, has borne fruit that resonates deeply as Brexit continues to loom ominously over Northern Ireland’s future.
Having teamed up to construct the Borders album – released back in June – the pair return with the striking promo for new single ‘My Island’, a track that greatly utilises the strengths of renowned spoken-word artist Stephen James Smith.
The video captures Smith’s journey through Derry and Donegal as Vail and O’Callaghan depict both republican and loyalist communities, seeking to realise a message of compromise and a hopeful shared future of Ireland.
Throughout the video, political and social figures from their homes past, present and future offer a symbolic desire to build bridges in spite of current political attempts to instil further division.
